The Local Area...
This area of North Wales has much to offer in the way of amenities and intesting places to visit and explore.
Portmeirion Village the well known Italiate village and dream of Sir Clough Williams- Ellis is 6 miles from Criccieth and certainly worth a visit as it was where “The Prisoner” was filmed some years ago.
Blaenau Ffestiniog has the slate caverns and you can ride a train into the deep cavern and see how the miners mined for the slate in the dark.
Caernarvon has a wonderful Castle where Prince Charles was made the Prince of Wales by his Mother the Queen. There is also another great castle to explore at Harlech which can be seen from the apartment windows.
Betwys y Coed has wonderful waterfalls and spectacular scenery as does Capel Curig and Llanberis where Snowdon stands proud into the skies. There is a railway track that runs up the mountain or you can climb to the top and enjoy the fabulous views of the lands.
Porthmadog has two narrow gauge railways, The Ffestiniog railway and also the West Highland Railway, both leading to beautiful places and two very different trips can be enjoyed on both.
The area boasts of some of the best beaches in the UK and some hold the Blue flag award .Black rock sands at Porthmadog, (Where there is a good harbour) are nearly 2 miles of sand and you can take your car actually on to the beach .The Lleyn Peninsula with the boating marina at Pwllheli has a lot to offer and Abersoch and Nefyn beaches are just 30 mins drive away.
Shopping, golf, fishing, riding, swimming, skiing and mountaineering etc are all in the area for you to try and we also have good theatres and festivals of music and song. There are two hiring Fairs in Criccieth, one on May 23rd and one on the 29th June. These have been in existence since the 800’s and are good for a day out , although now the stalls are full of clothes, plants and food stuffs which the local farmers and people sell.
Criccieth has an abundance of good restaurants, pubs and small individual shops and a well know ice cream parlour called Cadwaladers which dates back many years.
This area is one to be enjoyed all year round and Nantyfelin cottages can offer this facility. We always try to make sure that you enjoy your time in our properties and thank you for looking. We hope to meet you soon.
